David M. Hawkins
PARTNER David M. Hawkins received his B.A. degree in History and Political Science from the University of Dayton in 1968 and his J.D. degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1972. He served as Law Secretary to the Honorable William Woods in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Passaic County in 1972-1973.
After working as a litigation associate for the law office of Robert Pollack in 1973-1974, Mr. Hawkins served a ten-year stint as a Deputy Attorney General, Claims Service Section, for the State of New Jersey. He joined the law firm of DeGonge, Garrity & Fitzpatrick in 1984, where he was named a partner in 1986. He joined Purcell, Ries, Shannon, Mulcahy & O’Neill in 1993.
Mr. Hawkins has extensive experience in a broad range of litigation, alternative dispute resolution, mediation and arbitration matters. He has developed special expertise in the defense of claims against public entities (Title 59 claims) with an emphasis on school law, defending local boards of education.
Mr. Hawkins has lectured before various departments and agencies of the State of New Jersey on claims against public entities. He is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, Defense Research Institute, and New Jersey Defense Association.
